Cienfue, the acclaimed indie singer and songwriter recognized internationally for his irresistible tropical psychedelia, has commanded listeners’ attention this year with two kaleidoscopic singles, “Lost Tribes” and “Big Dream Energy.” Today, he now returns with the album from which these songs were birthed, “Seven Cities of Gold.”
Featuring nine immersive tracks, including Cienfue’s latest single and the album’s captivating title track, which in itself is a mystical journey through an Amazonian primitive future psychedelic utopia, “Seven Cities of Gold” is the highly anticipated follow up to his 2020 album “Life in the Tropics,” showcasing the next level of the artist’s remarkable creativity and continuing with the English language indie format that the artist started with that project.
With a title that alludes to the legends of mystical lost cities of the first inhabitants of the Americas—from the Amazon and Peru to northern and southern Mexico—the bilingual, transcendent concept album brings fans on a transformative ride through the emotions and recreates the vivid atmosphere of the Amazon in musical form. Diving deep into the spiritual traditions of metamorphic the rich history and musical culture of Latin America, the collection also captures the diverse musical influences that Cienfue was exposed to while growing up, in addition to conveying the metamorphic introspection, renewed sense of self and understanding of the world, and the powerful sense of freedom that one can only experience while under the influence of the life-changing psychedelic brew.
“My previous album ‘Life in the Tropics’ was a very mild introduction to the topic of Ayahuasca, however with ‘Seven Cities of Gold,’ I feel that we get more into the guts of the matter, with more profound subjects and explorations in Spanish of more tribal rhythms as well,” Cienfue shares.
“Seven Cities of Gold” is the latest chapter in what can only be deemed an extraordinary career for Camilo Navarro Quelquejeu, the artist now known as Cienfue. With more than 12 million streams of his intriguing musical catalog, he has impacted the world like no other, gaining notoriety for his compelling fusion of Latin roots and modern electronic elements. His boundary-shattering sound, which he has coined “psicodelia tropical,” has led him to receive recognition from some of the most respected outlets in the world, including BBC and MTV, and has brought him to countless music festivals throughout Latin America, including Rock Al Parque in Colombia, Vive Latino in Mexico, and Quito Fest in Ecuador, among other festivals.
